Surprising results in New Zealand election

We don’t often hear much about New Zealand – it is a long way away and doesn’t often appear in world news. But recently they elected a new Prime Minister, who is a 37 year old woman. Jacinda Ardern had only been leader of her party for a few months (she got the job because the former leader quit due to very low popularity) and her friendly, approachable style gave her party a 20% boost in the polls. This meant that the election, which had been looking very uncompetitive, suddenly turned into a tight race! It took a few days for the result to become clear, but New Zealand has a new leader, their second youngest and the third woman to take the job.
